RRB ALP Recruitment 2025 : Eligibility Criteria
1. Education Qualification
To apply, you must have at least one of the following:
- Passed 10th class (Matric/SSLC) AND have an ITI certificate in trades like Fitter, Electrician, or Mechanic
OR - Passed 10th class (Matric/SSLC) AND completed an Apprenticeship course approved by the government
OR - You have a Diploma or Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Automobile, or Electronics)
🔎 Note: Even if you have a diploma/degree, you are still eligible. You don’t need ITI in that case.
2. Age Limit (as of 1 July 2025)
- General Category: You must be 18 to 30 years old
Age Relaxation for Reserved Categories:
- SC/ST: +5 years (i.e., up to 35 years)
- OBC-NCL: +3 years (i.e., up to 33 years)
- Ex-Servicemen: Extra 3 to 8 years, depending on your service and category
3. Medical Requirements
To work as an ALP, you must be medically fit, as per railway rules:
- Vision: Your eyesight must be 6/6 without glasses
- Color blindness: Not allowed (You should be able to see all colors properly)
- Height & Weight: Should match railway health standards
- LASIK surgery: Not allowed (People who had eye laser surgery cannot apply)

How to Apply Online for RRB ALP 2025 ?
If you want to apply for the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) job in Indian Railways, follow these easy steps:
- First, go to the website www.rrbapply.gov.in. Click on the link that says “Apply Online” or “CEN-01/2025 (ALP)”.
- Make a new account. Fill your name, date of birth, Aadhaar number, mobile number, and email ID. You will get a code (OTP) on your phone or email — type it in to finish registration.
- After that, log in with your ID and password. Choose your RRB zone (like Patna, Mumbai, etc.). Then fill the form with your education, category (General, SC, OBC, etc.), and gender.
- Now upload your documents — your recent photo, your signature, and your category certificate (if needed). Make sure the size and format are correct.
- Next, pay the form fee online using UPI, net banking, or debit/credit card. Fee is ₹500 for General/OBC/EWS (₹400 will come back after exam). For SC/ST/Female, the fee is ₹250 (full ₹250 will come back after exam).
- Finally, check all your details again, and then click “Submit”. After that, download and print the confirmation page. Keep it safe for later.

RRB ALP Exam Pattern & Selection Process
RRB ALP selection has three stages:
- CBT 1 – This is the first exam. It is only for qualification.
- CBT 2 – This is the main technical exam.
- CBAT – Computer-based Aptitude Test. Only for ALP post (not for Technician).
1. CBT 1 Details:
- There will be 75 questions, and the total marks are 75.
- You will get 60 minutes to complete it.
- If you give a wrong answer, ⅓ mark will be cut (negative marking).
Subjects and Questions:
- Mathematics – 20 questions (20 marks)
- Reasoning – 25 questions (25 marks)
- General Science – 20 questions (20 marks)
- General Awareness – 10 questions (10 marks)

2. CBT 2 Details:
This paper has 2 parts – Part A and Part B.
- Total Questions: 175
- Total Marks: 175
- Total Time: 150 minutes (Part A – 90 mins, Part B – 60 mins)
- Negative marking is same — ⅓ mark cut for every wrong answer
Part A has 100 questions from:
- Math, Reasoning, Basic Science & Engineering
- These marks are counted for final selection.
Part B has 75 questions related to your trade (ITI or diploma-based).
- You must get at least 35% marks in Part B to pass.
CBAT (Aptitude Test)
- This is not a written exam. It checks your memory, attention, and thinking speed.
- Marks are not added to final result — it is just qualifying.
- Only ALP candidates have to give this test. Technician post ke liye nahi hota.
Final Selection:
- Your final selection will be based on CBT 2 Part A marks + Document Verification.
- You also need to pass Medical Test (A-1 standard) — your eyesight must be 6/6, and no color blindness allowed.
